ABOUT SKY HACIENDA

June Donaldson and Edward Garry live at an altitude of 2,600 metres in Mosoj Llajta, Yotala, 20 minutes from the colonial city of Sucre in Bolivia, South America. Using earth and stones from the land, we have sculpted beautiful buildings which compliment the high desert landscape and incorporate creative and innovative elements of design.

We have designed a high quality hotel in Sucre for guests who want to get off the treadmill of travelling from city to city in South America. At Sky Hacienda you can dictate your own timing and choose how to enjoy your stay, whether it is doing very little or exploring the best that the Andes in Bolivia has to offer.

THE WELL

With no mains water to our property, we were forced to buy in water for use in the construction until we could dig a well.

We started by chipping out the side of ditch as low down down as possible against our boundary line to limit the depth of the well. It was pretty close to where the water witch had predicted a good supply of water.

A bucket, shovel, pick and a measure for the diameter of the well.

The dirt is hacked out of the wall as the well gets deeper and hauled up
one bucketload at a time.

As the well gets deeper we have to
start using a home-made winch

And at 11 metres, 14 short of the water witch's prediction, we hit water!
